Individual Volunteer Opportunities
For individuals and small groups less than 5 folks.

Tuesdays   3 pm - 5 pm

Farming

Tuesdays are farm days where the focus is on food production. Come learn about farming and help to grow food for our communities! Volunteer tasks will vary but may include:  weeding, mulching, seeding, planting, bed prep, or other maintenace projects.  Tuesdays are physical days and often require bending, using hand tools, picking up objects, and walking on uneven terrain.

Wednesdays   10:30 am - 2 pm

Plant Nursery

We have a full working plant nursery where we grow plants for the farm, our plant sale, and our Plants for Justice project where we provide free seedlings for school gardens and food justice projects all over San Diego County.

Volunteer tasks will vary but may include: planting seeds, mixing soil, up-potting plants, weeding, watering, or organizing/cleaning the nursery area. We are also in need of watering volunteers for the nursery during the week - if you're interested in this come on a Wednesday so that Eurydice can fill you in and train you!

Thursdays   9:00 am - 1 2:00 pm

Composting

Volunteers will create rich, fertile compost and learn how it is applied to help regenerate soils.

Composting is an opportunity to take organic matter that is at the end of its life and offer a rebirth.

Healthy soil means a healthy planet and people. Join Botanical Community Development Initiatives in making a big change in the world!
We encourage you to save and bring your food scraps.  You can add them to our hot piles or feed them to our worm tunnel!

Sundays   11 am - 2 pm

Farming with Community

Sundays are when we all get together to work on all aspects of the farm. This is a good opportunity to meet new folks and learn about growing food, composting, caring for plants, and so much more!

Volunteer tasks will vary but may include: planting, seeding, weeding, mulching, up-potting, working with the compost system, chicken care, painting signs, organizing, cleaning, data entry, seed collecting, seed sorting, and/or various maintenance projects or building projects. All skills and abilities are welcome.

Sundays are also commmunity compost drop-off days so bring your kitchen scraps with you! You can bring things like shredded paper, manure: bunny, chicken, goat or horse, coffee grounds, eggshells, and other compostable materials to be composted.

*As a non-profit, the suggested program fee is an important part of how we cover administrative, staffing, and material needs for your visit. Some groups elect to also fund a project that they will be working on during their visit. Depending on the size and needs of your group, we may be able to have your group visit during one of our regular volunteer events which would reduce the cost for staffing for us.  If funds are a barrier, please let us know so that we can try to accomodate! Those who pay the full suggested fee or more help to subsidize those groups that are unable to pay the entire amount.  Thank you for your understanding and support.
